Dr. Jeff Fankhauser grew up in California’s central valley and began working in veterinary hospitals when he was 15 years old. He obtained a bachelor’s degree in Philosophy from the University of California, Berkeley in 1999, his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the University of Wisconsin in 2007, and certification in veterinary acupuncture from Colorado State University in 2008.
Dr. Fankhauser has dedicated his career to animal welfare and has worked almost exclusively with animal shelters, rescues, spay and neuter operations, and low-cost veterinary hospitals helping underserved populations. Working with his first veterinary mentor, Dr. Jeff Young (Animal Planet’s Dr. Jeff Rocky Mountain Vet), Dr. Fankhauser developed a passion for High-Quality/High-Volume spay and neuter surgery as the most effective tool to combat pet overpopulation. Through both lectures and hands-on trainings, Dr. Fankhauser has shared efficient spay and neuter techniques with hundreds of veterinarians and veterinary students from around the world and is proud to have personally performed more than 100,000 sterilization surgeries in dogs and cats.
While Dr. Fankhauser performs a wide variety of soft tissue and orthopedic surgeries, he is passionate about the difference dental care makes in the quality of life of our pets and has made dentistry a focus for Pet Maintenance and Repair’s patient care.
Dr. Fankhauser currently serves on the board of Planned Pethood International, a 501-c3 non-profit organization dedicated to promoting animal welfare and spay/neuter training worldwide. Whenever possible he travels to PPI’s training facilities in Mexico and Colorado to work with veterinarians and veterinary students from around the world.
Dr. Fankhauser serves as Medical Director for SNIPBUS, a 501-c3 non-profit organization focused on improving access to spay and neuter services throughout California through mobile low-cost high-volume clinics.
